Connecticut Family Photography | Summer, Fall & Holiday Sessions Are Coming

If you’re new here, welcome!

I’m Melissa, the owner of MW Photography, and for the past 19 years I’ve had the privilege of documenting families all over Connecticut. I’ve photographed newborns who are now graduating high school, maternity clients who have become family clients, and families who come back year after year because preserving these moments matters to them.

As we head into the second half of summer and start looking toward fall and the holiday season, I wanted to share what photography sessions will look like this year and answer some of the questions I know are coming.

First Things First: I Don’t Play Booking Games

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know I tend to do things a little differently.

You won’t see me posting daily countdowns telling you that there are “only two spots left” or creating panic around booking. You won’t see me sending five emails reminding you that you’re going to miss out if you don’t book immediately.

That’s just never been my style.

I believe that if you love my work, connect with my approach, and want me to document your family, you’ll book when you’re ready.

What I will do is communicate clearly.

Fall is historically one of the busiest seasons of the year for photographers, and I fully expect this year to be no different. Because of that, I will be releasing all of my Fall Family Mini Sessions at once.

No surprise drops.
No guessing games.
No waiting for random dates to appear.

Once the locations and dates are finalized, you’ll be able to see everything available and choose what works best for your family.

Simple.

Family Sessions Are My Favorite

While many people know me for beach sessions, family photography has always been at the heart of what I do.

Whether we’re exploring a beautiful field, wandering through a favorite Connecticut location, spending time at the beach, or documenting your family in your own home, my goal is always the same:

To create images that feel like you.

Not stiff.
Not overly posed.
Not perfect.

Just real moments, genuine connection, and beautiful images you’ll treasure years from now.

Full Sessions vs. Mini Sessions

One of the most common questions I get every year is:

“What’s the difference between a full session and a mini session?”

Full Sessions

If you want the complete MW Photography experience, a full session is for you.

Full sessions include:

● Flexible scheduling

● Your choice of location

● Styling assistance

● Unlimited session time

● A relaxed, unhurried experience

● All of your edited images

● Time for kids to warm up and be themselves

● Multiple combinations and plenty of variety

These sessions are perfect for families who want a more personalized experience and don’t want to feel rushed.

Mini Sessions

Mini sessions are designed for families who want updated photos in a shorter timeframe.

This year, my mini sessions will be approximately 20 minutes long.

In previous years, my minis were longer, but I’ve decided to shorten them slightly so I can accommodate more families and create additional time slots throughout the season.

You’ll still receive the same attention, direction, and experience you’ve come to expect from me—just in a more streamlined format.

Mini sessions are ideal for:

● Holiday cards

● Annual family updates

● Young families with busy schedules

● Families who love returning every year

Holiday Sessions Are Coming Back

Yes—the holiday minis will be returning this year.

One of the most popular setups from previous years has been my Greenhouse Holiday Sessions, and I fully expect those to return.

The greenhouse provides beautiful natural light, a clean and timeless look, and photographs that feel festive without being overly themed.

I’m also working on a few brand-new holiday concepts that I’m really excited about.

They’re still in the planning stages, so I’m not quite ready to share details yet, but if all goes according to plan, we’ll have some fresh options available this year.

Stay tuned.

Location Scouting Begins Soon

One of my favorite parts of preparing for fall is location scouting.

Over the next several weeks I’ll be visiting potential locations throughout Connecticut, looking at lighting, accessibility, parking, scenery, and all of the little details that help create a great client experience.

Once everything is finalized, I’ll share the complete fall lineup so you’ll know exactly what’s available.

A Quick Reminder

Life moves quickly.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

Kids start school.
They graduate.
Families change.
Grandparents age.
The seasons fly by.

Photographs become more valuable with every passing year.

Whether you choose a full session, a mini session, a beach session, a holiday session, or an in-home lifestyle session, my goal is simple:

To create images that help you remember this season exactly as it was.

Thank you for trusting me with your families for the last 19 years. It truly means more than you know.

I can’t wait to see so many familiar faces—and hopefully meet some new ones—as we head into another beautiful fall season.
